Semnostachya menglaensis (Nuo Mi Xiang in China) is a rare plant indig enous to the tropical rainforest in the south of Yunnan Province, on the Laotian border. When the leaves are crushed, a characteristic smell of bas mati rice develops. These miniature tea cakes are made using this herb in layers with pu-er tea leaves.
