In the late 18th century wild tea trees were discovered in the jungles of Assam. But, it wasn’t until the middle of the 19th century when the British established a robust tea industry, breaking China’s tea trade monopoly. India produces exceptional, high quality teas to meet a global demand. India’s three distinct growing regions, Darjeeling, Assam and Nilgiri produce primarily black teas with unique characteristics from each area. Today India is famous for it’s Darjeeling teas, bold Assams and masala chai.
